The idyllic setting of Lochside Cottage is the first of many memorable features of this comfortable home set on the shore of Loch Baile Mhic Chailen with panoramic views across the hills of Glen Etive to the distant mountains of Glencoe. Glen Creran, made famous by Robert Louis Stevenson's "Kidnapped", is sufficiently remote to ensure peace and tranquillity, and yet remains the ideal place from which to explore this special part of Scotland.
The three attractive bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor, have either en-suite or exclusive use of bathroom or shower-room. They are furnished with the little things that make them special and are a world away from the anonymity of modern hotels
The excellent menus make particular use of local produce - poached salmon with cucumber, pan fried venison with mushrooms and cream are typical, and mouth watering sweets, home-made oatcakes and Scottish cheeses complete a delicious dinner. Menus can easily be prepared for vegetarians or those on special diets.
After dinner guests may relax over coffee in front of a log fire and plan their programme for the following day. The opportunities are many - a walk around the loch or a stroll in the garden where river and loch meet, to absorb the beauty and peace of the Highland scenery.
The more energetic will find hills to scale, pony trekking and watersports nearby and skiing in the winter. For those wishing to venture further afield ferries are easily accessible to the Western Isles, While Oban, Fort William, Perth and Inverness are all within reach for a day's outing.
Whether your interests are historical or sporting, castles or distilleries, wildlife or scenery, or just relaxing with a book, there is more than enough to occupy everyone and ensure that your visit will be the first of many.
